Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The purpose of the Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of the College in achieving its statement of purpose. Under general supervision, the instructor is responsible for providing instruction and facilitating student learning according to the prescribed curriculum.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Director of Academic Affairs/Campus Director
EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Part-Time, Temporary
WORK WEEK:
This position requires the Instructor to work Monday to Friday approximately 20 hours a week
LOCATION:
Primarily located at our Burnaby campus (working remotely for the time being)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Degree, diploma or certification from a recognized university, college or institution relating to the area of instruction
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) from the Canadian Payroll Association must be completed and must be a current certified member of the association
At least 24 months experience in a related field
Instructional experience preferred and/or possession of instructor’s certificate / willingness to take additional instructional delivery workshop(s)
Approval by the Canadian Payroll Association prior to confirmation of teaching
QUALIFICATIONS:
Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction
Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation
Ability to motivate and inspire students
Ability to demonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour, a professional attitude and commitment to quality service
Ability to work cooperatively with other instructors and staff
Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of all students to provide feedback and treat students equitably, regardless of culture
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (please see website for full list):
Course Delivery and Classroom Activities
Delivering instruction to students that meets course and program objectives as set out in the most current curriculum
Preparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals of students
Being prepared for the start dates for each new course
Relationships with Students, Staff and Management
Refraining from fraternizing with students at a personal level.
Dealing with students, staff and other instructors in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
Alerting the administration of any student concerns which arise
Course Updates and Development
Providing copies of modified assignments, quizzes, or exams, with marking keys to the administration.
Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as required.
Keeping course(s) up-to-date and maintain relevant industry skills and knowledge
