We have full-time, term opportunity (to November 2021) for a Manager, Financial Reporting in the Finance Department. Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting & Controller, the successful candidate will focus mainly on supporting the Director, Financial Reporting & Controller in day-to-day responsibilities, overseeing the program to enable CEO and CFO certification of internal controls over financial reporting and special projects.

Key responsibilities include:

Overseeing and reviewing the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements and accompanying notes
Managing various audit and review engagements including non-consolidated, consolidated, and pension financial statements and special reports
Reviewing reconciliations, technical memos, bank transactions, journal entries and other working papers prepared by direct reports
Developing, maintaining, and sharing company accounting policies in accordance with the Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations
Conducting training sessions on various financial topics to financial and nonfinancial audiences
Assisting the Director, Finance and Controller in day-to-day responsibilities, such as analyzing accounting issues, developing and maintaining financial policies, drafting technical memos, capital project reviews, month and quarter end procedures, working paper review, etc.
Overseeing the payroll and benefits accounting including supplementary compensation and pension programs
Overseeing and reviewing process and control documentation, including annual certification and disclosure to support the CEO and CFO’s annual certification of the design and implementation of internal controls over financial reporting
Leading the control and process improvement environment to develop effective control and process solutions for various operational and financial reporting risks across the organization, including addressing and providing resolutions to issues identified by internal audit
Overseeing the Canadian, US, and International tax compliance including income, indirect, and other various taxes
Managing the General Ledger Accountant, Benefits and Compensation Accountant, and Junior Accountant (Cash Management)
Liaising with external auditors to ensure effective relationships and disclosure of risk assessments to aid in the conduct of the external audit
Liaising with external consultants on various corporate matters
Participating in IT system migrations or upgrades for various applications
Preparing and presenting materials to the Finance & Audit Committee and participating in various organizational committees
Providing support and direction to the Financial Reporting Team – this includes monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline

Key qualifications include:

7+ years of recent, related, progressive accounting experience, supplemented by an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
3+ years of management or supervisory experience
CPA designation required
Solid understanding of business processes and internal controls, including disclosure controls
Experience with SOX or CSOX documentation and testing
Understanding of Oracle E-business Suite an asset
Project management or end user participating/testing experience for a large IT system conversion or update an asset

Technical skills:

Strong knowledge of the COSO framework, internal control and risk management principles gained through significant financial, operations and systems audit experience
Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills applied in developing well founded conclusions
Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, including the Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations, auditing standards, and CSOX guidelines
Communications and critical thinking skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
Strong spoken and written English skills
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization (i.e., Board of Directors, management and staff)
Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities
Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, adaptability, and sound judgment
Strong decision-making ability
A strong commitment to health and safety with the ability to work safely and effectively under pressure
