    Health and Safety Officer: Closing Date February 24, 2022

    Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

    Department: Human Resources

    Overview:

    The purpose of the Health and Safety Officer is to initiate the implementation of the Haisla Nation Council Health and Safety program under the direction of the Human Resources Director. As a Health and Safety Officer, you will be assisting with the design, implementation, communication, and coordination of all health and safety programs at Haisla Nation Council.
    Duties:
    • Workplace monitoring.
    • Attend JHSC meetings and take minutes of meetings.
    • Review training records monthly for deficiencies.
    • Conduct site inspection, identify hazards, complete risk assessment of hazards.
    • Report workplace hazards to Human Resources Director / JHSC.
    • Record unsafe work and report to the Human Resource Director.
    • Correct unsafe work / or stop work until the work is safe to be performed.
    • Ensure clean and safe work environment is maintained.
    • Ensure employees receive proper safety and environmental training and understand work to be performed.
    • Support workplace diversity efforts of Haisla Nation Council.
    • Participate in the Development of monthly reports and annual reports
    Qualifications:
    • OHS certification, CSO or equivalent education.
    • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety.
    • Knowledge of employment law and industry regulations, including:

    o British Columbia OHS Regulations.
    o Federal Labour Code.
    o Canadian Human Rights Act.

    • Experience working with Aboriginal communities is an asset.
    • Requirement of proof of full vaccination for Covid-19.
